OK, Thom, I admit that I am something of a novice, but what do you mean by "SMSC is a good company and a shitty stock"? Isn't it a fundamental principal of investing (well, maybe not momentum investing...) that you are buying a part of a company when you buy stock in that company. How can one buy SMSC stock and not be buying "good" stock if SMSC is a good company?
