Pensacola police arrest first-graders for kicking adults

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- (AP) -- Police have arrested two first-graders in as many days after they allegedly kicked adult staff members at separate Pensacola elementary schools.

The children each were charged with battery on a school official, a felony, and disrupting a school function after the arrests yesterday and today. Both were turned over to juvenile authorities.

A 7-year-old boy was accused of hitting and kicking a teacher's aide at Holmes Elementary and then kicking the school's anger control specialist Thursday. They had taken the boy out of class for talking and rolling around on top of his desk while a film was being shown, police said in a news release.

An 8-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday at Hallmark Elementary and charged with kicking the school's behavioral specialist after throwing crayons and pencils at other students, police said.

School officials said both children have a history of disruptive behavior. Hallmark principal Joan Fox said police were called because the girl had kicked her teacher before.

``She was out of control, and it's not the first time she's been that way,'' Fox said. ``The only thing the teacher wants to happen from this is for the child to get help.''
