Since you have not addressed my arguments very seriously, I am not sure what to say.
Pogroms, in any case, were mainly incited in Czarist Russia as part of a political ploy to divert attention from problems within the regime. "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" was fabricated in this context, precisely because religious anti- semitism was insufficient, and charges of political conspiracy had to be floated, to exacerbate intercommunal tensions.
Again, there is no slight of hand involved in refusing to take nominal Christians as representative of those with particular religious motivation in a context of religious conformity. I define as "pious" those who show some comprehension of and commitment to their religious traditions. In fact, in one sense it is wrong to speak of Christian anti- semitism. There was such a thing as Christian anti- Judaism, but the point was to convert the Jews, not kill them. Anti- semitism is indifferent to religious affiliation, and racially oriented, which is why those with one grandparent Jewish were sent to the camps.
Are you even familiar with the Biblical exortations to treat slaves humanely? Anyway, sure the Bible sanctioned slavery, so what? My only point was that the practice had no religious motivation, but was independent.
Sorry to disagree with you, but there it is....... |
