How Deep is the Bottom?
As children, some of us tried to figure out how deep the bottom of the old swimming hole was before diving in. While todays' volatile market is certainly not child's play, trying to figure out where the bottom is in this bear movement has even the most seasoned analysts hesistant about making a prediction.
There is a tremendous amount of pent-up money, ready to go back in the market, as many investors have been sitting on the sidelines, waiting to make their move. The question is, when will they "dive in" ?
The Federal Reserve is being called to slash interest rates by 75 basis points, a move as large they have never made. We may even hear of a 50 basis point cut as early as today, prior to the Fed meeting on Tuesday. Again, all eyes are on Greenspan.
After all, Mr. Greenspan, it was you who told us we were suffering from "Irrational Exuberance" and that the country could not responsibly handle the "Wealth Effect", without succumbing to inflation.
That was then, this is now. Most of us would welcome the opportunity to once again, be irrationally exuberant about our wealth effect!
