I use the term "legend" to indicate that it is a story we are in no position to historically verify, but generate "a priori".
The argument from design is not bad, and is the easiest to refer to. As for the "maleness" of God, obviously God is beyond gender. However, "it" seems inappropriate, given the agency involved in creation, and normal usage dictates "He" when gender is undetermined.
I have read a lot of history. We gleaned different things.
Most people, even atheists, have times when they look upon the wonder of creation,say from a mountain ridge or laying in a field on a clear, starry night, or when they see their child for the first time, and want to thank someone for the fact that they are alive. I am sorry if you are bereft of this sentiment. It must be terrible.
