if you're disciplined (I know this looks like it's going through the roof, but I promised myself I'd sell at 80

It is lack of such discipline that made me a lot in NTAP. I bought in in early 1998, and the thing just kept going up and up and up... and I sold a little bit after a 50% gain, but lacked the discipline to sell everything after it doubled and tripled and quadrupled. I came away with the lesson of "just hold on and ride it out."

And after NTAP became a twelve-bagger (or so) for me, the lack of that kind of discipline made me hold it all the way back down to 20.

Had I been disciplined, I would have sold it nearer the top on the way down -- but had I been disciplined, I wouldn't have held it all the way up to the top either. In fact, what ended up happening is probably equivalent to what would've happened had I practiced discipline: I got out of NTAP at 20 with a nice 100% or so gain.
