Let me use another example. How long would it have taken to get the lead out of paint so slumlords could save $10/gal on painting their tenements. The people that live there are unlikely to know the difference but that is not informed consent. The lead causes a liability the slumlord will not assume. What if your mechanic wanted to make midnight runs up to the lake to dump his used oil? Who would stop him in the free market?

What would the free market do about a company that makes a drug that they know will cure your headache, but give you cancer in 20 years, yet they decide to market it anyway? You benefit from almost all the regulations that you complain about. Truck safety. Traffic law enforcement. Safe food and drug act. OSHA.

As for fines, many activities will invalidate your insurance (like skydiving). You need to get special insurance for that. Race car drivers need special riders on their policies before they can compete in events. That is your "fine". If you do things that cause you injury because of your willful stupidity government is there to prevent you from doing that. What if you want to open a school to practice surgery without a license? Sorry, you can't do that.
