You may also have noticed that CNBC has changed its pitch - "profit from it" has changed basically to don't miss a second of the disaster - watch or die, in effect. Maybe they think stock market catastrophe can do for them what the Gulf War did for CNN.

Nyah...

P/C ratio, VIX, 4% moves in 200-day MA of price variance... McClellans oscillating... too 20th Century... none of it's real to the public until it's a spectacle... and newspaper headlines aren't good enough... The BOTTOM has got to be televised LIVE... Maybe we need CNN all day on the trading floor, Art Cashin fainting, brokers in tears... coordinated calamities worldwise (last week as dress rehearsal)... and Bush meeting foreign leaders about it and trying really, really hard to act like he understands ... and limousines ferrying treasury officials to meetings at the Fed, Fed governers to the White House - heads of C and GSCO and so on coming in and making big futile gestures... Gore (remember him?) and Clinton and Rubin and Volker even all have to weigh in... And we need new Sosa/McGwire-style records - record one-day point AND pct. losses - full-throated congresspeople promising emergency hearings... calls far and wide to shut down the market until for god's sake someone, someone figures out what to do...

that kind of thing...

and then you go long
