Read an interesting analysis of current market storms and when they could turn. A guide are two fundamental valuation methods: 1) method one: what are the historic norms for stocks based on total cash flows discounted for the future? This method needs some forecasting, some smoothed correlations between stock prices and factors like corporate earnings or book value. This method means stocks still (p/e wise or ratio of GNP to total market capitalization) need to fall 37% before S&P settles into its traditional range.

2) other method: inverse relationship between 10 yr bond yields an P/E ratios Ratio should not vary far from value of 1. Since bonds have also fallen by almost as much as stocks and stocks are now actively undervalued, and the market looks ready for a rebound. This according to Jeff Applegate at Lehman Bro.: stocks are now 20% undervalued vs bonds. Recommending 80% in stocks 0 cash. Read fuller analysis in FT, 18 March.
