"On a more practical note, even if we have much further to fall, the NASDAQ is very oversold here and is due for a countertrend rally to shake up increasingly complacent bears. Right now people are as dismissive of rate cuts as they were of rate hikes a year ago. History shows the Fed always gets its way which is why it's unwise to fight them for too long"

How long did it take for rate increases to effect stock prices last year? Does anyone remember? I think we can begin the actual decline prior to 3/2000 as certain groups--chip equips started to fall earlier. What I am looking for is a strong counter trend in a tech area. Chip equip is still holding above the lows and this may be the first sign of a bottom. AMAT is a signal stock in this regard. If it keep above new lows that will be positive and if it can break out of the $50-$52 area it has bogged down in on several tries, that would be very good.
