Whether it's being meticulously profane or loose grammatically, I do believe both are permissible here.

Your points are well taken about De La Hoya, however now I'm thinking perhaps we should cut him some slack. I'm not sure how well any of us would fare with too much "attention, money, fame, women(or men), cars, etc", before beginning the inexorable slide into Divadom.
