Hi Peter,

I am working my thoughts on a somewhat convoluted theory on how the Fed has been working.

I am a bit convinced that the intra-meeting cut Jan 3rd was due to Greenspan knowing about some of the problems coming with the Asian banks. He has reacted to pre-empt such trouble before. There was that really weird intra meeting cut in '98 during the Asian crisis, remember?

Now that the crisis is intensifying, I believe he will go bigger than we think this time around. It will help US with liquidity problems and give the market a big kick in the can. The resulting increase in equity values will offer debt laden Japanese banks a way out of their mess.

Maybe a somewhat warped and way out theory, but it's fundamentally sound I think. My finger will be on the buy button at 2:15 Tuesday if we see something like this. A rally at 2:15 will follow through for the week, imo, instead of the usual 20 minutes.
