Is there a large fundamental difference in watching the VIX during a market top vs. a bottom?? I am looking for the pop over only 40, characteristic of last April's numbers, where the NAZ topped and was tanking thru panic selling. Is this fundamentally wrong?

You need to be looking at the VXN which is the VIX for the Nasdaq Shaw. Its near all time highs and is sufficiently high enough for me to look at a bottom arriving any second now. VIX/VXN readings are higher near bottoms rather than tops because fear is a greater emotion than greed.
