I have some technology questions relating to roaming in CDMA networks. From postings on this board, I have deduced that CDMA One has never addressed roaming in a way functionally equivalent to GSM roaming. Is this problem addressed with the introduction of a RUIM in CDMA handsets or is it fundamental to the underlying ANSI-41 network architecture? Would a service provider have to make hardware or software changes in the network to support automatic update of user tables in the network to recognize and correctly bill a guest handset?

Is this defect a part of the "limited mobility" of the Indian WLL roll-out?

How does the Leap Wireless Cricket service handle this? Can a Cricket user from one city use the phone in another Cricket city (assuming appropriate charges), or are the networks physically and logically distinct.

The proposal to create a single Japanese-Korean-Chinese logical network seems to me to be a self limiting solution. How does a Japanese user roam to Australia or the US?

Do the changes in the network software/architecture required for CDMA2000 1x address these roaming issues?

These issues seem to be the kind of thing that could seriously hamper the growth of CDMA2000 rather than have service providers wait for UMTS.

Could some more technologically savvy poster give me a clue to this issue?

Eric
