Aus, I agree that the '987 patent provides at least some protection. However, it appears that while Lexar must pay royalties on CF using this patent, SNDK may have cross licensing agreements with Intel and others who use this patent.

In the embedded flash memory sector, SNDK must compete with several companies -- Intel, AMD, SSTI, etc. AMD and SSTI seem to be the market leaders. Intel may be a closer competitor to SNDK in this area, since its flash products typically have higher capacity, like those of SNDK, but not like the smaller capacities in the chips made by AMD and SSTI. It also appears to me that Kodak may be leaning toward embedded technology in its digital cameras, judging from the fact that the Chairman of AMD is on the Kodak Board of Directors.
