just a few dow closing prices from the past...keep in mind that it took longer to break even due to the effects of inflation on your "dead" money.

sept 3 1929 dow (peak)........381.20
nov 23 1954 dow (new high)....382.70

dec 31 1964 dow...............874.10
dec 31 1981 dow...............875.00

one thing i should stress however is dividends is what made stocks attractive during no or slow growth periods.

i was lucky to find such a stock last year that yielded 16% at my cost basis and turned into a 3 bagger as well. i am now out half that position and will collect my mail box money for as long as i see profits in that company.
