It's a bummer isn't it?
But meat is discretionary for me, and I have to eat something!
I try to minimize the discretionary risks. I know there are huge problems with imports. We try not to eat imported foods. Again- to minimize risk. And safe handling of fruits and vegetables also helps. I believe in that article they mention the prevalence of precooked foods- I try to keep those to a minimum in our house. Cooking, after all, is a great way to reduce pathogens. And wash that lettuce that claims it is ready to eat. If there are bacteria on the leaves- you may reduce the load by washing.
