SB, Of course jewelry purchases can always be deferred. However, I read that housing and cars are still selling well. I don't think slower business investment (directly, by itself) will cause a recession. However, if it results in a higher unemployment rate, then a recession is a sure thing. So for me the critical statistic is new unemployment claims, and of course the unemployment rate.
