Well, the Japanese govt buys stock because they still have those Kireitus which seek to prevent foreign acquisition of their corporations. Obviously, it's subsidization of their markets and blatant interference. But it hampers the inevitable, namely the bankruptcy and restructuring of many of their larger, heavily indebted corporations.

Putting them into bankruptcy would open them up legally to being acquired by foreign competitors.

As for the thinness of shopping bags, I would ask you why you're not bringing your own cloth shopping bags to the store in order not to contribute to the pollution of our planet... (not that I do... :0).

But I haven't noted any significant change.
