Hi John,GV, and JohnH, RE: "state of the VC biz..."

Thanks for the article on the state of the VC biz. If you get more on this, please post them. I think they tend to be leading indicators of high-tech.

I heard a lot of VC firms have lost their ties to the investment banking firms. Sounds like lots of WS folks are losing their jobs. The infrastructure is falling apart pretty fast between VCs and WS.

I heard a traditional VC firm still has investment bankers pounding on their door, but since the IPO market is essentially non-existent, this is lip service.

They feel the VC market will begin to stumble in about 9 months, when a lot of the newer firms go under as their funds dwindle. This makes me feel there is more bleeding to come in Silicon Valley. Although, a lot of the smart VC firms cut their losses last year and some in fact are sitting on large funds they raised last year.

One new hot area is suppose to be Infiniband. Storage is no longer hot (although it still is by follow-on firms). Infrastructure continues to be a good area according to 3 sources.

Regards,
Amy J
