I may not express myselft as clear as Reg or Sal does, I am not a good
English speaker. I am in Microsoft just about a year. Before I came
to Microsoft, I only know Microsoft as a OS and desktop software
company. We use Word, Excel and Win 3.1. When I want Intenet software,
I used to goto Stroud's CWSApps site, there was nothing there from
Microsoft. Last year at company annual meeting after my first month
at Microsoft, BillG said we are betting on the Intenet. How many Internet
products or Internet enabled products since then? Tons. Now if you
went to Stroud's page, you can find Microsft softwares, even with highest
5 stars. That is the change. Internet used to be Microsoft's biggest
thread, now it becomes/may become Microsoft's next source of enthusiasm
and hard working.
NC is another thread, TCO is another big criticism to Microsoft
software. We are addressing it, our team is working on it. Most issues
will be solved in NT 5. We are almost there, the beta will be out this
summer.
Of course, there are things not changed. Someone mention the business
practise, the marketing, etc. You don't change what is good for you,
you improve what you are weak of. You can learn more from your enimies
than from your friends. We are learning.
If you are the leader especially for a long time, you tend to be
lazy and lack the willingness to make changes. The thread and
the challenge is the great things to stimulate people. I think the
biggest mistake Netscape made is to challenge and wake up the
Microsoft before it really has the resources and ability to compete.
I have read this thread for about a year, I know you are a big fan
of Netscape. I am not trying to persuade you or anyone. I think one
can never persuade the other by arguing. The more you arguing, the
more he convincde by himself/herself. Myself never been persuaded.
But one will be persuaded by himself/herself and by the fact. This
is only my opinion, so don't argue with me.
A few word for moral, someone like to talk moral here, especially
Dan. (No offending, I do enjoy your posting.) I think we should be
moral in our personal life. But business is business, it just like
war. Business is to make money, to beat competer, to beat them hard
if not put them out of business. To beat them and let them never
forget you. Same thing in investment, the ultimate goal in investment
is making money. Who cares what moral of the company? I am new in
investment, I lost money so I failed here, no moral invovled. Now
I am using TA, which only looks the pric. I even don't bother to
remember the company's name, do I need to check the company's moral
first before I buy the company's stock? I don't think so.
This has been my longest post ever. I am so drain when I type
English.
Good investment, have a good weekend.
