MikeM, consider your MBA from an institution such as Long Island U before you make assessments on other people's stupidity.

Fed hikes were necessary to stabilize the US Dollar and stem gold outflows. Indeed the market did bottom in 1932-33, but at levels not seen 30 years prior. To say that levels of 5 years ago cannot be reached, which I believe bidbuster was implying, is not out of question by any means.

The same dilemma will be faced by Alan Greenpsan.
