I agree that a recession can spiral out of control and the 2002 congressional elections will be nasty for the Republicans if one happens. I also agree that Bush needs to grow (quickly) into the "stature" required. That being said, I do think he's off to a good start, generally. While the enviromental whacko issues aren't MY issues, I DO NOT like Bush violating ANY campaign pledge so early in his administration (if at all). One of our biggest complaints about Clinton and his ilk was that they lied all the time. We need to be above that and if Bush says he is going to do something, then (at least attempt to) do it!

Perhaps the clean air thingie really can't be done now that the California power thing is a crisis and it's a legitimate reason to shift gears. I hope there aren't too many more gears being shifted, however, as we'll loose our "higher road" stance against the Democrats.
