By flipflopping, he also hurt the stature of two top officials, Colin Powell and Christy Whitman, both moderate to liberal republicans. That is not lost on moderate republicans either. As far as stature goes, Bush still remains weak, more so now with the Cheney condition. It now feels like the Chairman of the Board running the show rather than the CEO.
Yes, in general, he has had a good start, but last week witnessed the first cracks in the armor. He needs to be fast on his feet here and try to steer a centrist, more inclusive course. Mike
