Are the days of the Intel vapor launch over???? A year ago Intel and AMD were in a GHz race on the desktop. Once the Intel date had been leaked, AMD forged ahead and beat Intel to the punch by a day or so. Intel's launch was relatively sparse, and it didn't take long for detractors to begin the chorus of "vapor launch." What a difference a year makes... Everyone knew the race to a 1GHz mobile was the "next big thing" (TM), so I expected we'd see a return to the vapor launch which plagued us so badly last year, but that's not what happened. Intel released the 1GHz mobile P3 in quantity supported by systems from all of the major players. AMD, it appears, took discretion as the better part of valor and didn't sully their recent string of successes with a premature vapor launch of the Palomino K7's...
