My grandfather bought a fig ranch and a gold mine near Roseburg, Oregon in the 30s. Got enough gold to pay for the mine. The fig ranch had a mountain behind it for sale that he didn't buy. Turned out it was full of high grade uranium. He bought the places to have an excuse to go out there salmon fishing.
