Mike, nowhere did I say or imply that Bre-X was a conspiracy (right or left). Like ole 49r you get a lot of exercise jumping to conclusions. All the evidence (and there is a lot of it) points to a fairly crude scam - the only amazing thing is, as you rightly point out, how all sorts of people switched off their personal, inbuilt, crap detector - otherwise known as a brain. I have read about mass hysteria but I never figured I would actually see it, let alone participate in it. I partly accept your comments about "garbage" - but you don't get my point. And, yes, I have posted garbage too. Earlier this year when I found several major inconsistencies in the Bre-X story and data I posted a sarcastic message to the effect that there was certainly a billion ounces at Busang. This backfired because the message did not convey any sarcasm (I recognise that I don't have any talent, or even good judgement when it comes to conveying a message on email. However, I have recognised this and I am working on it). This message has been a source of both embarrassment and amazement for me. Nobody questioned the statement - Why? Everyone believed.
Re; LHO - go read the book. The conspiracy theories started because investigators screwed up, accidentally destroyed evidence, destroyed embarrasing evidence for reasons unrelated to the case etc etc etc. In short, it was bungled - but that doesn't mean that LHO wasn't acting on his own. All the conspiracy theorists (and there are 1,000+ published JFK/LHO conspiracy book) leave out simple, uncontested facts that LHO had been a borderline psychopath since he was a kid. He was actually diagnosed as a psychopath and his mother mother back to Louisiana to prevent him from being locked away (that's simplified a bit). He attempted to assasinate a right wing ex-military figure only a few months before JFK and the bullet from this attempt matched the "magic" bullet from the JFK assassination. Read the book and find out how people can distort the truth to sell a book.
There is a very old principal, "Occam's Razor", which says that the simplest story that explains all the facts is usually the right one. If all the JFK/LHO conspiracy theories were right then about 10% of the population of North America were involved. Obvious, at most only one of these conspiracy theories is right. So the other 999+ are pure crap. Why do you prefer one over the other 999+? Which one do you think is correct?
PS I realise that ole 49r either can't, or does't, read posts correctly. Often technical types are dyslexic - same with computer nerds. Before anyone takes me to task, I am not abusing anyone with dyslexia, just making an observation. When I was a kid I suffered from partial dyslexia, so I understand (and I am a "technical type" myself).
It's a long weekend here; the way the country runs it seems as if every weekend is a long weekend. Schiavo.
