Lots knew and they are all equally guilty. Just following orders is no excuse. The Nazi regime hated even their own undesirables. If you had an Aryan child with a birth defect a very nice Nazi matron would arrive at your house to unburden you of that undesirable. You never were told where it went or what became of it.

Hitler as a kid was a fan of an American cowboy hero called Shatterhand. I have never found an English reference to Shatterhand anywhere.
