AD, I agree that there is a fair amount of strength in AMAT's price action that does not seem warranted. I tend to think of it as reaching a point of maximum pain (not to be confused with Ben A's option analyses). It seems to me that after AMAT's precipitous decline late last year, a fair number of funds should have bought into it when the semis and semi-equips recovered in the Dec-Jan time frame. These folks are probably the most interested in defending the stock price at current levels to protect their interests. On the other hand, they couldn't possibly have known that the news was going to get this bad. Now that we have gotten 3-4 months of data since then, it's simply a case of who blinks first and starts the next selling cascade. AMAT is a darling (and deservedly so), but the incremental negatives will become harder to ignore, IMO.
