New Macronix Content Cards to Expand Palm Handheld Capabilities

Reader's Note: This release complements today's announcement from Palm, Inc.
regarding the Palm m500 series handheld computers

MILPITAS, Calif., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Macronix America has announced
a new family of low-cost, read-only Content Cards that will enhance the
capabilities of Palm(TM) m500 series handheld computers. Macronix Content
Cards are fully compatible with the expansion slot built in all new Palm
handhelds. These cards are approximately the size of a postage stamp with the
thickness of a credit card.
Macronix will initially offer a family of preprogrammed read-only Cards
with capacities up to 32MBytes. A family of field programmable Cards will be
introduced later in the year. For reference, an 8MByte Content Card can store
up to 2000 pages of material. The Cards are an ideal medium for a variety of
content including books, dictionaries, maps, travel guides and games. The
Cards may also be used to store such complex content as music compressed in
formats such as MP3.
Commenting on the cooperative effort between Macronix and
Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), Alan Portnoy, president of Macronix America stated:

the new Palm m500 series handhelds, as well as future handhelds. This will

Macronix 8MByte ROM Cards are available for orders now with a price below
$10.00 in 2500-piece quantities. The 2MByte ROM cards will be introduced in
calendar 2Q 2001 with a price below $5.00 in volume. The 16MByte and 32MByte
cards will follow soon after.
