Aus, assuming the latest reports are correct, I don't see much reason to be upset with some other company providing low capacity, low margin cards. I wonder, however, whether SNDK gets any royalties from anyone making a MMC card with read and write capabilities.

I think the SNDK strategy here is to supply the higher capacity cards in the retail market, leaving the low capacity, limited use cards to other manufacturers. This strategy can only work if there is enough demand to use existing manufacturing capacity. If you have idle capacity, supplying even a low margin item is better than nothing.
The other issue is whether SNDK can be the lowest cost producer. If so, then there's little to worry about. But we don't know. . .
