note at the bottom. The questions is: Will they or won't they report. Do you remember last time they delayed and delayed - then finally reported and we soon found out Softbank had sold all their shares?

0822 [Dow Jones] HK SHARES OVERNIGHT: Shares fell in light London trading; U.K.-based HSI ended down 38 at 13419, hit by weakness in two of HK's heaviest weighted stocks; HSBC (0005) fell 25 cents to $92.75 as investors worried about its businesses in slowing U.S. economy and China Mobile (0941) fell 20 cents to $38.05. In New York, ADRs mostly rose; China Mobile up 1.7% at US$24.68 (equivalent to $38.50); China Unicom (0762) up 2.2% at US$12.77 (equivalent to $9.96); HSBC up 3.2% at US$60.90 (equivalent to $95); Cheung Kong (0001) up 4.4% at US$11.75 (equivalent to $91.64); Hutchison (0013) down 1.1% at US$54.25 (equivalent to $84.62); Pacific Century CyberWorks (0008) up 2% at US$5 (equivalent to $3.90); Sinopec (0386) up 3.5% at US$14.90 (equivalent to $1.16); CNOOC (0883) up 2.9% at US$16.25 (equivalent to $6.34).(IVW,SMG)
0816 [Dow Jones] Short-selling turnover up 8.2% at $210 million yesterday as market remained quiet and range bound; number of stocks shorted rose to 35 from 33. HSBC (0005) by far most shorted stock with $81.5 million worth of shares shorted, followed by Swire Pacific (0019), with $25.4 million. Recent favorites, telecom and property stocks, largely inactive; Cheung Kong (0001) with just $14 million most heavily shorted stock in these 2 sectors.(IVW)

0811 [Dow Jones] WALL STREET: Stocks stemmed slide on hopes Fed may take big swipe at lowering interest rates; economically-sensitive cyclicals and financials rose. DJIA gained 1.4% and Nasdaq 3.2%. Players expect at least 50bp (and some 75bp) rate cut by Fed, which meeting today. Some stocks managed to post gains in face of further profit weakness: optical fiber-maker Corning up although it cut 2001 forecasts. Lucent snapped back, up 20% on 3-year $5 billion contract to supply equipment to Verizon Wireless. Not so good for Intel, which shed 6.3% on comments from U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray; analyst Ashok Kumar says "full-fledged recession" in 2H01, across both commercial and consumer segments, will mean negative growth for PC sales in 2001. Solectron down 9% after-hours after contract manufacturer met 2Q expectations but added it'll come in light on 3Q and unveiled plans to cut more than 10% of staff.(RXM)
