Any of you guys have TCM (Turner Classic Movies)? Man, they have a lot of great old obscure films. Movies that are really good, particularly from the early 30's, pre-code. Like 'The Big House,' 'Min & Bill' very funny movie. 'Red Dust', the movie that made Gable a star is a hellava sexy movie.
They also ran a letter-boxed version of 'The Big Country' last week. That is a terrific, forgotten film. Came out in 1956, same theme as 'Giant' but a much better movie. Great cast; Gregory Peck, Charleton Heston, Jean Simmons (wow), Carol Baker, a greasy Chuck Connors, Burl Ives, Charles Bickford. It was President Eisenhowers favorite movie, he loved the Gregory Peck character. Great music as well. |
