Lots of companies have Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology working. There are a few on the bleeding edge that I go by on a daily basis. It's the reformer, which generates the hydrogen from some carbon based fuel source, that is the problem. Their fuel cell runs directly off hydrogen. Not too many sources of pure hydrogen around so the press release is really pretty much "hype".

Incidentally, PEM and reformer technology are one of the two primary reasons I have substantial positions in several precious metal producers. Some of the catalysts are rather rare.
