John,

I think that the PowerNow! Auto mode will become a powerful weapon for AMD. Part of the recent surge in energy use in this country is due to the hundreds of millions of computers that are in use -- many of which are on 24/7. We are reaching an energy crisis and the government will be forced to take steps to mitigate the problem. Companies will not only lower their power consumption due to mandates, but also to lower cost due to surging power prices. These forces will spur demand for PowerNow! technology. Computers that are left on over night will throttle down to a low power state. Sever farms that use Palomino with enhanced PowerNow! will experience low power usage during off-peak hours, but with the capability of dynamically, and nearly instantaneously, upping performance when needed. Combine this with the EPA endorsement yesterday, and we may even see government agencies required to buy systems with PowerNow! technology. Intel may end up being forced to license the technology from AMD.

Pravin.
