Tench: re paper launches
Why dont you read this little excerpt from JC's .. perhaps it will help you regain some objectivity. --------------------- First off, a little explanation for the previous two pages. I wanted to, in a roundabout sort of way, illustrate to you that these two companies are not altogether different in nature. I know that I keep hearing AMD fanatics (the precise term for this is "AMDroids", for reasons that I have not entirely worked out yet) complaining about constant Intel "vapour [or paper] launches", while Intel freaks (affectionately referred to as "Intelabees" by the other side) viciously comment about lack of reliability with AMD components.
Well, it's time to set the record straight. You have it all wrong. AMD is the one who makes the partless launches, while Intel has the crappy quality. Er, and vice-versa. They're really all just the same. I wouldn't be caught dead with an i820 chipset, or a PIII-1.13 processor (both of which are known for, well, having reliability problems). In the meantime, where the hell is the legendary (mythical, actually) 'C' revision of the Athlon processor, and the chipsets that go with it? Did we forget that these parts were announced nearly five months ago and only recently became semi-available?
You see, there's credence to both sides having paper launches and there's plenty of shaky evidence to support that both sides make unreliable products and are supported by companies making unreliable products from time to time. But I, right now, call a moratorium on these silly attacks. Neither AMD nor Intel have exclusive rights to unstable/unreliable/insecure products, and neither Intel nor AMD have patented the concept of vapour products. Anybody trying to single out one platform over the other in these categories.... ....is an idiot.
