Recently, I have been wondering how much of a 'force' IBM is with its RS60000 RISC microprocessor architecture. In Europe, they seem to be getting good press about the AS/400 machines (called Advanced Series) which will soon run Windows NT. (There is also talk that they will be able to allow NT to run on their mainframes too).

So, the basic question to pose to people on the Intel thread here is whether there have been previous technical comparisons made between the RS6000 architecture and the latest Intel microprocessors, and who has the advantage over the long haul. And what factors do we need to take into account when making such a comparison.

IBM is now on a roll, and we seem to be focused so much on AMD/Cyrix, I wondered if we should not talk about RS6000 too...

Grateful for all your comments.

Regards,
