The two factors that have driven this bull market are spending and productivity. Unfortunately, the interest rate hikes last year stifled both. The bias from the Fed is clearly down, as are our stocks.

The long-term investor is yawning. This is but a bleep on the radar screen. As Philip Morris shareholders, we are the best trained investors in the market. Please remember, the masses are asses. The same smart people who sold when everyone was buying are now buying again.

I agree that people are not spending, and this is dangerous. But they're still smoking Marlboros. Perhaps more now than ever.
