Paul, just one minor footnote. I never look at balance sheets without
checking how they would look without the good will, especially for
debt-heavy companies. Without good will, I suspect this company would
now have negative net worth. The implication is that they are counting
on not having a recession in their business in the next few years,
probably a pretty good bet, but a bet nonetheless. (You are right,
I tend to avoid highly leveraged companies.)
