Hi Gottfried,
I know my post may have sounded like I was implying 573 routers were quite an industry write-off, but I wasn't implying this. I just didn't write a good/complete post.
I was actually thinking about component prices in general that I've been reading about in the news, and basically listed the Cisco routers as a small sample.
With all the news on component prices decreasing due to the economy and cycle, I was basically saying that even though things may sound bleak, the reality is, this can't last forever, and the optimistic way of looking at this is, even though this appears to be big, one could think about it as an industry write-off that eventually goes away because technology keeps changing. No one builds to old components and no one wants to buy last year's technology. That was what my post was trying to say.
Even though the economy may not be good, every day your computer keeps getting old, and that works in our favor for every single day that it gets older (I'm borrowing this great line from John Fowler, not sure if I paraphrased it correctly though, but credits go to him).
