ted, re:<a S. CA politico stating how CA had cut back on energy consumption.....and then the Seattle news station panned on LA's buildings all lit up, trees sparkling with little lites and then, onto back-lit water fountains, moving from fountain to fountain until they got to the biggest one of all in front of a gov't bldg. It turned out the bldg. houses LA's Dept of Water and Power! >

To say that all of S. Cal. has cut back on power is BS. LA has barely cut anything, the simple reason being that Grey Davis has protected their electric rates from rising. No such protection in San Diego, where rates have tripled and consumption is down 20%.

The only solution to the power crisis is the politically unpopular one of letting rates at least double. I think people and especially corporations should get screwed in proportion to how little they have cut their power usage, but the baseline should be 1999 rather than 2000, since many people here started saving in 2000.
