Have you read Benjamin Anderson's "Economics and Public Welfare"? The bulk of it was taken from the newsletters he wrote at Chase during the 1920s-1940s. It was about 20 books ago, so I don't remember it too clearly right now. I'll have to reread it sometime. He said that money was freely available for broker loans throughout the crash.
