A MetaMarkets.com observation on NUFO from OFC 2001 community.metamarkets.com New Focus I had NUFO’s sales guy run through their new Powertune long-reach tunable laser for me, and as things stand now, New Focus seems to be ahead in the tunable laser race. About the size of a pen, their new tunable has a smaller footprint than others, yet has greater power and wider range. Most tunables run the tradeoff between power and number of wavelengths they can support. NUFO’s Powertune runs at 20 milliwatts and can support 80-100 wavelengths, which is about 5 times the power of other tunables supporting 4-20 wavelengths. Powertune is the first tunable powerful enough to be used in long-haul applications.
