DULLES, Va. (Dow Jones)--America Online Inc. (AMER) launched new 3.0
software for Windows as the cornerstone for a new set of features.
In a press release, America Online said new Applets technology, which is embedded in 3.0, will allow members to automatically receive future
incremental features of America Online ''on the fly,'' without the need for massive client downloads.
The company also launched its previously reported value pricing option
giving consumers 20 hours of online time for $19.95 a month, with each
additional hour $2.95. America Online said it will continue to offer its pricing plan of $9.95 for five hours a month, with each additional hour $2.95. The company said it is also offering a variety of enhancements to make using America Online a more ''personal and customized experience.''
The company said members can create a personalized news portfolio, multiple personalized stock portfolio, a personalized address book, set up parental controls for children or customize America Online software and account preferences.
