"In 2000, Alcatel sold 7.6 million DSL lines and had a 52% global market share. Some 70% of total sales in 2000 were achieved in North America, Verbiest said."

Steve- There were less than 2.5 million DSL (assuming ADSL) North American subs. 70% of 7.6 million is 5.3 million. Something is askew?

I'm guessing Alcatel's "DSL line" definition is not the same as a "DSL subscriber." If I'm correct, there is a lot of capacity out there that may be waiting for line cards? Or if the line cards are out there, a lot of inventory needs to be burned off. Wonder which one it is?

Maybe ZO can shed some light on this apparent discrepancy. -MikeM(From Florida)
