This is probably a dumb question, but you need NG to refine oil to gas?

Actually, that's a great question. Refineries also use NG to fire the furnaces used during various refining processes (e.g., fractionation, cracking, and regeneration). They also produce natural gas as a by-product of their light ends separation process. Net-net, though, I think they use more than they generate.
