If I were being caustic, I might comment that the path of an enlightened slave-owner is not so much of an improvement.
I'm not, however. I revert to the humanistic position that whatever one does which does not harm others, which does not deprive them of their own individual freedom or encroach upon their own being, should be allowed. Full stop.
Consensual sexual behaviour between adults is a prime example. Adults, in this case, has to be a loose definition... but if a person is old enough to marry, drive or join the army - kill and/or die for their country - at 16, such age should serve as an accepted boundary, yes? (which only leaves alcohol, gambling and standing for election as oddly restricted alternatives... LOL, they must be dangerous). |
