My point was just that it would make sense, if you could get some tax advantage out of it. But as has been pointed out, these days, the IRS won't let you do it without paying the taxes, so...

I could imagine some transaction cost, like being able to borrow shares, might be a reason to still do it, but it's vague at best in my head.
