Well I think its all risk management in the end. We can play the 'Chips' but perhaps reducing position size is the right thing to do (my opinion).

I only trade a small portion of my available capital at any given point, but i actively trade it. I can never be wiped out by a trade gone horribly wrong. Certainly these days, I trade very small on the long side.

Although one exception is futures - I trade full size on every trade, but use very tight stops. I might be wrong two or three times and lose a point or two or three, but invariably I will be on the money the next time around and pull in 4 and sometimes 20. Repeat as required.
