I was thinking in the really big, really really big picture...

My theory is that we have been in a secular disinflationary cycle since 1980, and at the same time, financial assets were the beneficiaries of this environment. I believe the tide turned with the low in interest rates a few years ago, but it might not be apparent for perhaps a year or two more. After all, when stocks perked up in 1982, it took until I think about 1984 before people really believed that there was a turn around...

The wild card here is how this market bust affects things with its deflationary forces.
